Workington Town players got their first look at the new arrivals this week as the club began their pre-season training.

The players all met on Tuesday night for their first session under the guidance of assistant coach Craig Barker.

And club director Les Smallwood was pleased with the talent that was on offer but insists Town are still not the finished article.

“We have a lot of new signings in key positions, at six, seven and nine, and it will take them a while to get used to each others’ style of play.

“And at this moment the squad is not complete, hopefully we may be able to add another four or five to the squad.

“But training went well, all the travellers came, apart from Jay Duffy, and all the lads seemed to enjoy it.”

Coach Dave Rotheram lands back in the UK tomorrow after his stint as assistant coach to the Scotland squad in the World Cup.

Rotheram will have just over a week to get his team into shape for the visit of the touring Australian Fijians.

The big clash, which sees the return of Town legends James Pickering and Peter Walsh is on Sunday, November 30 at Derwent Park.

  •  The Travellers Rest Supporters Club are holding a race night tomorrow.

However, this one has a slight twist as it is being held at the Galloping Horse, at High Harrington.

Money from the event will be shared between Town and Harrington Scouts, in aid of their appeal for a new building.

The first race is under starters orders around 8pm and the supporters club is hopeful that Town fans will go along and help make the event a success.
