Past is history - Haven look to the future

WHOEVER said any publicity is good publicity clearly was not hanging around the Recre this week.
Leroy Joe, David Fatialofa and Carl Sice all suffered nasty injuries against Leigh, it emerged that the club landlords want to triple the rent, and worst of all, Barry Richardson stepped down from the club board.
Barry cut an impressive figure at the club’s sometimes fractious AGM last week. He spoke eloquently about the need to draw a line under the club’s financial plight and look to the future.
Unfortunately, it might not be a future in which he looms large, due to work commitments. Barry has been the most influential figure at the Recre in the last decade or more.
More so, with respect, than major personalities such as Steve McCormack, David Seeds, Paul Cullen or Aaron Lester.
If a club is not on a firm footing off the field, in the long-run it cannot prosper on it. He remains in the background as an advisor. Let’s hope his influence will still be felt.
