Reds to sue for £10,000 over deal for Cassidy

WORKINGTON Reds are to sue Newcastle Blue Star over £10,000 they say is still owed in compensation for allowing former boss Tommy Cassidy to switch to Tyneside.

The money had been factored in to Reds’ budget this season, and along with the club’s failure to put together an FA Cup run, has forced directors to look at costs at Borough Park.

“We have to cover that £10,000 that hasn’t come,” revealed chairman Humphrey Dobie. “Obviously we have a hole in the budget and looking for savings.

“We have started proceedings and solicitors are involved. We have set the wheels in motion.

“We are very disappointed the way it has panned out.”

Dobie added that an initial £10,000 had been paid by Blue Star, on receipt of an invoice from Reds, as agreed after Cassidy’s move, which did not work out for the respected former Northern Ireland World Cup star.

But that a second and final payment of the same sum, due 90 days later, on December 3, last year, had not been made.

Reds missed out on £4,500 in prize money when they went out of the FA Cup on penalties at Harrogate last week. Last season they picked up £18,750 in prize money on the way to the first round-proper, where they met Bury.

But Dobie stressed that there were no major financial worries at Borough Park.
