Four Workington players set to miss Harrogate FA Cup replay

Workington Reds FA Cup ambitions could be affected by the unavailability of players for tomorrow night’s replay.

Reds could have up to four players missing for the trip to Harrogate if they can’t get time off work.

In addition top scorer Jonny Wright took a bad knock on his leg which forced him to retire after only half an hour of Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Borough Park.

Manager Darren Edmondson said: “The players will all be contacting me today to inform me of how they have got on and whether they can travel.

“Even if they can’t go on the team bus I’m hoping that some of them will still have time to travel by car and get there in time. It isn’t ideal by any means but it’s a problem you have with part-time football and midweek matches.”

Reds have drawn twice 0-0 with high-flying Harrogate who had been ranked the form team in Blue Square North ahead of Saturday’s tie.

“It was disappointing that we didn’t beat them, because very much as in the League game we had opportunities but unfortunately didn’t take them. We could have had the game killed-off by half-time.

“On the other hand we have to take encouragement from the fact that we have twice outplayed a team lying second who are one of the favourites for promotion.”

Opposite number Neil Aspin admitted that his side had been fortunate to get away with a second chance.

“Workington should have won it. That’s twice we have been second best to them and I’m expecting a big improvement for the home match,” he said.

Aspin only had 15 players available for Saturday’s tie and that will again be the same tomorrow night when he will only be able to field four substitutes.

“We haven’t a big squad to start with so when you get a few injuries that’s what happens,” he said.
