Reds must bring the right attitude home - Edmondson

Workington Reds must take their battling attitude seen on the road in to today’s return to Borough Park to face Redditch, warned boss Darren Edmondson.

Reds have taken two points from impressive draws at Alfreton and Droylsden, and Edmondson is determined that the intensity shown in those performances is maintained on home turf.

“Those two points were great but will count for nothing if we lose out home games,” he said. “The ethic and the attitude can’t be allowed to drop. In the end, we should have won both of those games.

“At Droylsden it felt like a defeat given all the work that had gone in. It was a great performance and a good point.

“It was good that the players felt disappointed with the point. We are trying to set high standards and hopefully the mentality is changing.

“Possibly two years ago, when I came to the club, they would have been satisfied with the point at Droylsden. But after the game, players were actually distraught. I feel they are starting to believe in themselves a bit more.

“They knew they were good enough to win that game, and that’s the positive thinking we want.”

He believes that, unlike in the past, leading players could not be guaranteed a place in the team.

Edmondson, who could welcome back Tony Hopper (hamstring) to the squad today (3pm), pointed out that Graham Anthony was a non-playing sub at Droylsden.

“He’s club captain, but other boys did well and deserved to keep their shirts,” he said. “He understands that.”

Reds are level with Redditch on seven points from as many games but boast a superior points difference.

Edmondson’s men travel to Leeds on Tuesday night to face Farsley Celtic in the Setanta Shield.
