Haines is up for England Under-23 task

WORKINGTON Comets starlet Joe Haines has been called-up to the England Under-23 side.

The teenager will make his international debut at Wolverhampton on Monday when they take on their Australian equivalents.

Haines is a Wolverhampton asset, loaned to Workington for his first full Premier League season and will be making his first appearance for the Under-23 team. He will be riding alongside the former Workington favourite James Wright , who is now riding for Swindon in the Elite League.

ENGLAND: James Wright, Tai Woffinden, Edward Kennett, Ben Barker, Lewis Bridger, Josh Auty, Joe Haines.

AUSTRALIA: Troy Batchelor, Cory Gathercole, Cameron Woodward, Ty Proctor, Matt Wethers, Aaron Summers, Josh Grajczonek.

Last night’s Premier League match between Workington Comets and Stoke Potters was called-off.

With rain starting to fall heavily in late morning and with up to 14 millimetres of rain forecast before start time it was decided to pull the plug.

A new date has been agreed for Friday, September 19 but that is subject to approval from the Workington Town rugby league club.

Comets aren’t in action again until next Saturday when they are due to ride against Newcastle Diamonds.
