Cumbrian swimming star Luke Greenbank was back on the podium after cruising to victory in Marseille.

Greenbank was back into competitive action in the FFN Golden Tour 2022 Mediterranean Open Meeting.

And the Cockermouth star dominated the 200m backstroke final to win by more than two seconds.

Greenbank, a double Olympic Games medallist at Tokyo 2020, was the only man to swim inside two minutes as he won the final in a time of 1:57:81.

That followed the 24-year-old leading the qualification with a time of 1:59.03.

It was the latest action for Greenbank as he builds up to this summer’s Commonwealth Games, where he will represent Team England.

The Cumbrian has often spoken of the importance to his success of his formative years with Cockermouth Swimming Club.

He was recently named Cumbrian sports personality of the year after winning a silver and bronze in Tokyo.

Greenbank, meanwhile, has also been unveiled as the first sponsored athlete of the AP brand, founded by fellow swimming stars Adam Peaty and Ed Baxter, who is a former Cockermouth team-mate of Greenbank.

It will see the Cockermouth man receive financial support as well as further commercial opportunities, whilst also offering clinics to up-and-coming swimmers.
