AS RNIB community fundraising manager, I am looking for volunteers to join my existing team in Cumbria.ACCORDING to a recent report, lie detectors may be installed in benefit offices to reveal claimants who may be telling fibs about their circumstances.

Hypocrites! It has become fashionable amongst opposition politicians and some national newspapers to shout about the treatment our wounded soldiers receive and the poor conditions many of the rest have to live in when not on active service.

IS THE Lake District safe in the hands of the National Park Authority?REGARDING the story about the disabled lady who fell asleep in her car and was given a ticket by a traffic warden because her disability badge was displayed upside down (News & Star, May 6).IN 1999 my wife, granddaughter and myself embarked on a project during which we visited Carlisle to see the Botchergate Post Office – the site of the first roadside post box in mainland Britain. Since then, we have tried to obtain a first-day cover (FDC) issued on August 9 1990 in celebration of this event, but without any luck.MAY I, through your columns, thank those who voted for me in Belah Ward during the recent elections for Carlisle City Council. IS NEW Labour’s goose finally cooked?

ROGER Liddle, chairman of Cumbria Vision, has expressed concern about the criticism in the editorial of the News & Star (April 18), that the agricultural aspect of economic life in Cumbria had been overlooked in the new Cumbria Vision strategy set out at its Economic Summit 2008 conference.WHY is the general public berated for wasting energy and for failing to spend in the High Street?
