Honest Dimbleby takes some beating

JONATHAN Dimbleby must be the only one in his family prepared to admit that sometimes he doesn’t know what to think.
That’s very much to his credit and it certainly added a surprising lift to his Russian exploration on Sunday.
Russia – A Journey With Jonathan Dimbleby (BBC2) – caught him looking a bit breathless and more than a little perplexed, as he met and mixed with the great and the good, St Petersburg’s equivalent of WAGS, the dressed up, dressed down, some with a sadness for lost Soviets and country widows who all wanted take him home and marry him.
He really didn’t know what to think of Russia, he said.
Well, what a refreshing change that was.
But not so Jonathan’s closing scenes.
Stark naked in a Moscow bath house he shared with a lot of other very fat men on mobiles, JD was beaten and pummelled to within an inch of his life by a burly Muscovite with hands like shovels.
The most disturbing aspect of all this was that he seemed to be enjoying it far too much.
