CARR’S Breadmaker is hoping flour power can help it land a prize in Cumbria’s premier business awards.

On the rise: Carr’s Breadmaker is the latest firm to enter the CN Group Business Awards

The Silloth-based miller is the latest blue chip business to enter the CN Group Business Awards 2008.

The awards are run by CN Group – owners and publisher of the News & Star.

Carr’s Breadmaker has entered the Community Involvement category, which recognises the positive impact businesses can have on the wider community.

The company’s homebaking flour range was developed in response to the surge in popularity of DIY loaf baking a few years ago.

Carr’s bosses have estimated the average family could knock £100 off their annual food bill by baking their own bread – and that estimate is looking more conservative by the day.

It is the company’s commitment to community and education projects, though, that it hopes will be recognised with an award.

The CN Group Awards aim to celebrate the achievements of businesses and individuals and are free to enter. The awards will culminate in a ceremony at Rheged, Penrith, on October 30.
