Sellafield scheme strikes gold

By Safira AliSELLAFIELD has won an award for a scheme which helps employees to give money to charity directly from their pay.
The company was awarded the Payroll Giving Gold Award 2008, for the scheme, which costs the donor less and the charity gets more.
In 2007, £56,548 was donated to various charities by 1,065 employees.
The Gold Award is presented to employers that have generated sustainable income sources for UK charities through Payroll Giving.
Pauline Deans, Sellafield public affairs officer, said: “I am delighted that our employees are receiving recognition for the donations that they make to so many worthy causes.
“Give As You Earn is a very tax efficient way to donate to charities.”
The Payroll Giving Mark rewards organisations of all sizes for making payroll giving available to their staff.
The Gold Award is awarded to employers that have 10 per cent or more of their employees participating in Payroll Giving. Employers also need to pay the administration charges, match donations, or have actively promoted payroll giving in the last 12 months.
