Carlisle Green Room Club brings Ibsen's A Doll’s House to life

The much-celebrated play is directed by James Issitt, who has previously directed the comedies Jeeves and Wooster and The Ladykillers at The Green Room.

The play is set in bourgeois Norway, and it portrays Nora who appears to live a perfect life symbolised by a doll’s house.

A tranquillity which is broken by the visit of an ex-employee of her husband Torvald, and the reacquaintance of a former school friend.

At its premiere, members of the public left the theatre in rage and disgust about the ending of the play, so outrageous was it to have a woman consider putting herself above her duties to her husband and children.  

“I have waited years for the stars to be aligned with the perfect cast, crew and designers to attempt one of my favourite plays," James said.

Taking on the central role of Nora is Alice Woodsworth, an actor who graduated from the University of Cumbria with a degree in Drama and Musical Theatre, who is returning to the Green Room stage after a few years. 

“I am delighted to have been trusted with the iconic Nora Helmer, and to have the chance to bring such a complex character to life alongside a troupe of not just a phenomenally talented cast, but truly great friends, has been a joy," she said.

"It has allowed for such a chemistry and connection between the characters that I believe will shine through and form the heart of the show. Audiences are in for a treat!”

The supports include Seb Coombe as Torvald, Joe Desborough as Krogstad, Jayden Malabre as Mrs. Linde, Michael Spencer as Dr. Rank, and Louise Graham as Anne-Marie.

The play is scheduled to take place at The West Walls Theatre in Carlisle from Monday, May 13 to Saturday, 18 May at 7.30pm.
