A walker was taken to hospital in Cumbria yesterday (April 11) after suffering an ankle injury when out on the fells.

At 11.13am on Thursday, Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team were called out to assist after a walker suffered a painful fracture and dislocation of their ankle.

Cockermouth MRT wrote: "Two walkers were traversing the Low Fell tops, when one went over on their ankle, suffering a painful fracture and dislocation. The Great North Air Ambulance Service was able to land and treat the casualty before the Team arrived, leaving us the relatively straightforward job of packaging the casualty on a stretcher and transferring them to the helicopter."

The casualty was flown to the Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle, and the Team assisted their walking partner off the fell and back to their vehicle.
