CARLISLE'S Travelodge is seeking approval for expansion plans.

The hotel, on Cecil Street, seeks to convert its existing office space on the first floor into additional hotel rooms.

The application was submitted to Cumberland Council on April 9, put forward by Wake Morley Architects Limited on behalf of Travelodge Carlisle

The area would undergo transformation resulting in an additional 22 hotel bedrooms.

This takes advantage of a significant space currently idle, optimising the utilisation of the pre-existing building.

The design and access statement reads: "We believe the proposed extension of the Travelodge hotel will have minimal impact on the visual amenity of the building.

"The proposals are designed to provide additional benefits to the town without affecting current transport links or road traffic.

"The alteration to the external window is within keeping with the original building, and the thermal upgrades will enhance the building.

"In conclusion, we believe the principal of this extension should be deemed acceptable," it reads.

The proposal would see the hotel bring on an additional five staff members, bringing the count up to 27 employees.
