Mountain rescuers were deployed to a couple in peril after one suffered a panic attack.

12 members of the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team were called out to Sharp Edge on Blencathra on March 30 at 10.20am.

After some rain early that morning, and mist on the tops, the team said it received a report of a ‘young couple who had become crag fast on a slippery Sharp Edge’, adding that one of them had a panic attack when the mist descended.

A spokesperson from the team added: “Whilst the team were deploying from Mousthwaite Comb a team member who happened to be on nearby Bannerdale Crags went over to investigate.

“He quickly located couple who were now on safe ground.

“However another well intentioned walker who went to help the couple slipped a short distance and ended up on some tricky ground.

“Thankfully he was uninjured.

“Our team member managed to guide him to safety and once the group were assembled they were walked off the edge to enjoy the rest of the day in what turned out to be glorious sunshine.”

The callout lasted one hour and 40 minutes.
