FUNERALS have been suspended at a crematorium as renovation work takes place.

Work began on Friday, March 29, at Distington Hall Crematorium and it is set to finish on Sunday, April 14.

Funerals will resume at the crematorium on Monday, April 15.

The foyer, chapel, and cloisters are set to be refurbished during the works.

The music system is also set to be updated along with the toilets and a new family room.

Councillor Anne Quilter, explained that some work has already taken place, she said: "This has included re-wiring in the crematory areas and lighting work in the cloisters, which will limit the time that the crematorium will be out of use."

The Cemeteries and Chapel of Remembrance will remain open.

Carlisle Crematorium will remain open and can be used as an alternative.
