A Cumbrian school has received funding which will allow them to become the first non-profit CrossFit affiliate in the county.

Last week Ullswater Community College received the 'incredible news' that they have been successful in a recent application to Active Cumbria for funding to transform their fitness room into the first Non-profit CrossFit Affiliate in Cumbria.

Supported by The Academy Programme, a National CIC (Community Interest Company), they will be delivering CrossFit classes that not only improve UCC students' physical fitness but also develop life skills, personal growth and employment opportunities.

CrossFit is a fully accessible fitness program for all ages that is focused on training and nutrition; it uses functional movements such as squats and pressing to create workouts that are constantly varied.

For UCC this goes way beyond the physical, it is a truly innovative approach that will empower students, promote teamwork, collaboration and for some even a qualification!

Over the coming months there will be a full refurbishment of the current space and taster sessions for the UCC community of students and staff before the official launch of Ullswater Community CrossFit.

Headteacher Stephen Gilby said: "Another wonderful opportunity for the Ullswater community! Not only are the physical benefits evident, but the positive influence on our students' mental health promises to be immeasurable. I know this will be another successful dimension to our broad and knowledge rich curriculum - there really is something for everyone at UCC."
