TWO scooters have been seized from youths near Millom over the weekend, after the pair were caught with the transporters on a national speed limit road.

Copeland police stopped the two youths on a national speed limit road late near Millom on Sunday evening, March 17 after they were spotted on the scooters in the 'pitch black' and 'pouring down rain'.

The scooters have since been seized under section 165 of the road traffic act with the police warning other people against using the devices in the future.

E-scooters are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988. Which means the rules that apply to motor vehicles, also apply to e-scooters including the need to have a licence, insurance and tax.

On social media, Copeland police said: "PC2518 Diesveld and PC2853 Garrett, stopped two youths on e-scooters late last night on the A5093 just outside Millom, it was pitch black and pouring down with rain on a national speed limit road.

"The scooters have been seized under section 165 of the road traffic act."
