A VIRAL video of an alleged assault which took place on Friday in Carlisle has received international condemnation.

The story of the video has been covered extensively by national news agencies such as The Guardian, Mail Online, Mirror Online, The Independent, and the BBC, followed by international news sources in Africa, in countries including Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

The president of the organisation Nigerians in the UK (NIUK), which works to support Nigerians in the country and move here, known as Oluomo of Derby, said on X, where he has over 96,000 followers: “Racism in the UK is getting worse every day.

Chofamba Sithole, a prominent South African journalist, said to his 16,500 followers in reaction to the video: “It seems now that Africans should be calling out Britain and other Western nations to respect human rights in the very basic sense of acknowledging our humanity.”

Janett Walker, the chief executive of the campaign group Anti Racist Cumbria said: “On an average week we get at least two emails from parents, schools, pupils, about racism that is happening in some shape or form. Cumbria may be a mainly white county but it is no worse or better than anywhere … racism is a problem across society.”
