Brampton school raises over £200 for Comic Relief with teacher karaoke

William Howard School hosted the musical event on Red Nose Day 2024 which took place around the UK on Friday, March 15. 

Mrs Booker performing 'Sweet Caroline' (Image: William Howard School)Students paid £1 on the day to see the staff stars belt out karaoke classics, with the school contributing £225 to the £40,055,914 that was raised by the organisation that supports 'local community organisations and change-makers in the UK and across the globe'. 

In recent times this funding has supported around 300,000 people in the UK who have been severely impacted by the rising costs of living, provided five million people globally with health care and mental well-being support, and helped two million children and young people access safe homes, healthcare, and education.

William Howard School's student participation lead, Mrs Tracey Hill congratulated everyone involved with the event and explained how she believes it will go down in the school's history books.

The karaoke event saw a number of performances that included history teacher Mr. Campbell's rendition of Frank Sinatra's 'My Way' and sixth form director of learning Mrs. Swan's belting of Tina Turner's 'Simply the Best'. 

Mr Anders brought the heavy metal to the event (Image: William Howard School)Physics Teacher Mr. Anders also shredded his guitar whilst performing Metallica's 'Master of Puppets', English teacher Ms. Booker got the crowd involved with her spin on Neil Diamond's 'Sweet Caroline, and year nine director of learning Sarah Ledger sang Nancy Sinatra's 'These boots were made for walkin''. 

Mr Campbell's encore was more than 'kenough' (Image: William Howard School)The event was rounded off by a special encore from Mr Campbell who channeled his 'Kenergy' with a performance of Ryan Gosling's 'I'm Just Ken' which featured in the Barbie Movie, and pupils joined in for sing-a-long of Gala's Freed from Desire.
