A MAN is hoping to change the face of education by offering an extra-curricular learning service.

Danny Barber, the creator of STEAM Arena, which is set to be based in Carlisle is hoping that the initiative will take off nationwide.

The centre, which it is hoped will be in a suburban area of Carlisle, will offer children aged preschool to 12 a place to develop their educational skills in a way they would otherwise be unable to.

The scheme was launched earlier this month and Danny is promoting the concept through TikTok and other social media whilst it is still in the ideas stage.

Mr Barber said: "The spaces will be interactive and explorative centres for children to come and engage in science, technology, engineering, art, and maths.

"In Carlisle, we will cover a mile radius with approximately 1,500 children in this area.

"I have got a list of schools that I want to engage with, and several teachers have already come to me who are interested in what we're doing."

Danny is a parent himself and is also a school governor. He hopes that he will be able to offer something that he believes many schools are not doing at this time.

He continued: "We have quite a large backroom and we'd be looking to soundproof that and turn it into a music studio where children can come along and play musical instruments.

"I'm hoping to launch by the summer holidays, and we have started a fundraising campaign with the aim to raise £100,000.

"We're asking for a donation of £3, I think if I can find enough people to get behind this idea I think it would provide some social proof and validation. I really thing that this is something that we need."

Danny explained that the premises that he has in mind would be in Morton.

He says that he would like it to be in a residential area, meaning that children and their families would not have to travel into the city centre of Carlisle.
