The driver of a car which was involved in an accident yesterday on the A66 has been arrested for drink driving. 

Police were called to the scene near Keswick shortly after 7pm and subsequently arrested a driver who was three times over the drink drive limit. 

The crash caused the closure of the eastbound carriageway whilst emergency services were on scene.

In a social media post, Allerdale Police said: "Tonight, Keswick and Cockermouth CBO's attended a Road Traffic Collision on the A66, Keswick Bypass.

"The driver was subsequently arrested for being three times over the drink drive limit!

"Break the law and goodbye licence."
