Pair remanded after Wigton street stabbing

A TEENAGE boy and a man have been remanded in custody following a street stabbing in Wigton.

A 15-year-old from Aspatria and John Michael Hull, 33, appeared before magistrates in Carlisle yesterday in connection with an attack on Xenon Charters, 22.
The two were charged by police yesterday morning following inquiries launched after Mr Charters suffered wounds to his face, neck and body on Friday August 15.
Hull, whose address was given at court as being in Seaton, Workington, but who police had previously said lived at Blackwell Road in Currock, Carlisle, is charged with wounding, making threats to damage property, witness intimidation, disqualified driving, failing to provide a specimen of breath and driving without insurance.
The 15-year-old, whose identity is protected by law, is accused of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, making threats to damage property, assault causing actual bodily harm and two counts of possessing a blade.
The two spoke only to confirm their names and addresses when they appeared before Carlisle Magistrates Court yesterday.
They stood beside each other in the dock throughout the 50-minute hearing, which began at 3.10pm.
Neither were asked to enter a plea and the case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court.
Hull and the teenager were remanded in custody ahead of their next court appearance, which will take place on September 11.
Two other men, a 49-year-old and a 31-year-old, were arrested during the investigation last week. They have been released on police bail until September.
Mr. Charters had been walking through Wigton after a night out with friends when he was stabbed a number of times.
One wound punctured his stomach and liver.
He was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle for treatment after the stabbing. None of the wounds proved life-threatening.
