United clash with Leeds – 14 arrested

A TOTAL of 14 people were arrested on Thursday night as Carlisle United took on Leeds in the play-off semi-final.
Police leading the citywide operation have hailed it a success as trouble and disorder was kept to a minimum.
Thirteen of those arrested were from the Carlisle area and one from Wakefield.
Chief Superintendent Andy Davidson, who co-ordinated the operation, said the trouble was mainly low-level public order offences.
He said officers’ zero-tolerance approach ensured the trouble that there was did not escalate.
“Overall this was a successful policing operation. There was real potential for trouble given that both teams had a lot at stake, but it was pleasing to see that the vast majority of supporters recognised that both teams had done well throughout the season and on the night,” he said. “The small amount of trouble was alcohol-fuelled.
“We will now prosecute the offenders and apply for football banning orders to ensure that this minority of troublemakers cannot disrupt the enjoyment of the game for the rest of the fans.”
