Calling curtains on another Keswick theatre season

Another successful Theatre by the Lake summer season draws to a close, but there’s still time to take in one of the seven varied and quality productions before Saturday, November 8.

Arsenic and Old Lace at the Theatre by the Lake

Arsenic and Old Lace is a hilarious tale of Sisters Abby and Martha who just love to poison lonely old men.

If you’ve not yet seen Arsenic and Old Lace by Joseph Kesselring then come along tomorrow and get the family dressed up in suitably ghoulish attire for the occasion.

Not only will there be a fancy dress competition, with the prize delivered on stage by a member of the cast, but themed food and ‘deadly’ cocktails will be on offer in the bar.

Playing alongside Arsenic and Old Lace in the Main House is The Lady in the Van, Alan Bennett’s funny but touching play about the cantankerous woman who lived in his front garden for 15 years and Oscar Wilde’s classic comedy of manners The Importance of Being Earnest. For those of you who are interested in seeing the darker side of Oscar Wilde, there’s Neil Bartlett’s In Extremis, playing as a late night extra to complement certain performances of Earnest.

In the Studio is Kay Adshead’s one-woman play The Bogus Woman, the passionate story of an asylum seeker’s experience of Britain, along with Martin McDonagh’s black comedy The Lonesome West – best described as ’ meets Quentin Tarantino’ and Harold Pinter’s masterpiece The Caretaker.
