DJ WOODY, one of Britain’s most respected hip hop DJs and innovative turntablists, plays The Brickyard in Carlisle on Saturday.
Woody, who came into the world as Lee Woodvine, invented many groundbreaking scratches and turntablist techniques, including his signature ‘Woodpecker scratch’.
In 2001, at the mecca of the scratch DJ, San Francisco, Woody became the first European DJ to win the coveted World International Turntablist Federation title.
The following year he won the Vestax Extravaganza World finals and is now the official DJ for Latin hip hop superstar Mala Rodriguez.
Woody has played some of Europe’s biggest festivals and toured North and South America, sharing the stage with artists such as the Beastie Boys and Snoop Doggy Dog.
Tracks by Aquasky, DJ Vadim and Zebra Traffic’s Dirty Diggersall have received the Woody treatment and he has been working with dance producer Tim Simenon (Seal, Depeche Mode) on tracks for a new Bomb The Bass LP.
The Brickyard’s manager Andy Bartlett says: “DJ Woody is one of the most outstandingly creative DJs I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Woody has pushed the boundaries of turntablism. He is one of the funkiest and most talented DJs the UK has ever produced.”
Support at the Fisher Street venue comes from Lambhuna and Friends, including Sean Vynilment, The Irritant and special guests.
