HEROIC goalkeeper Keiren Westwood is today unveiled as the News & Star Carlisle United player of the year.
The Manchester-born shot-stopper was the overwhelming choice of our readers in a poll running for the last month of the season.
Westwood attracted a staggering 50 per cent of the vote in a huge response to our search for a star.
And the 23-year-old said today: “What a great honour this is. It comes on the back of my being named in the PFA League One team of the year and I’m overwhelmed.“To be recognised by your peers is great and so is this one. I know that thousands of News & Star readers are diehard United fans and I really want to thank them for taking the time to vote for me.”
Westwood will be presented with the inaugural News & Star trophy by sports editor Phil Rostron on the Brunton Park pitch 20 minutes before kick-off in Saturday’s cliff-hanger against Bournemouth, which is being sponsored by this newspaper.
He was followed in the voting by Danny Livesey (17pc ), David Raven (6pc cent) and Joe Garner and Danny Graham (both 5pc).
