Inside story: Matthew Johnson

Name: Matthew Johnson

Age: 25

Height: 182cm

Weight: 80kg

Club: Workington Town strengthening and conditioning coach

How often do you train: Three times a week in the gym and out on the field.

Favourite food: Homemade sweet and sour chicken

Hated food: Tomatoes, I'm not keen on them at all.

Worst injury: I've broken my jaw playing rugby and I've broken my leg playing football.

How long did it take to recover: About three months for each one. Supping soup wasn't too much fun when I broke my jaw.

What do you enjoy most about being fit: I think really just a sense of well being and I rarely get ill.

Favourite sportsman: Ryan Giggs. I really admire his professionalism. He's kept himself fit and he's been loyal to one club.

Sporting hero you would most like to meet: Lance Armstrong because of his background and stories. You've got to have supreme fitness to achieve what he has.

What made you want to work in strength and conditioning: I enjoyed that side of it when I was playing and I also enjoyed the physical side. It seemed ideal when the opprtunity came up.

Give us one fitness tip: Vary your workouts. It'll avoid monotony and keep you going back to the gym and improve your fitness because it keeps your muscles guessing.
