Reds peg ticket prices for 2008-09 season

Workington Reds will clock up more miles than any of their Blue Square North rivals next season – and with rocketing fuel prices that’s bad news for their bank balance.

The Cumbrians face an aggregate 3,762 miles for their 21 away games in the league, with Blyth Spartans next on 3,578 and Tyneside neighbours Gateshead on 3,308. Manchester outfit Droylsden face the shortest trips, putting in a total of 1,704 miles.

“Looking around at quotes for bus prices, they are £1,000 to £1,500 more than last season,” said director Alec Graham.

“I’m not surprised but it’s a noticeable increase on what we paid in the past, reflecting the increase in the cost of diesel.”

Reds have to wait until the last away game of the league campaign for their longest round trip of almost 600 miles. They travel to Kings Lynn on Saturday, April 18.

Despite cost increases, Reds have pegged their admission prices at Borough Park next season. Prices will remain at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

Adult senior tickets are frozen at £180 and junior season tickets are for sale at £20. Reds enter the FA Cup next season at the second round qualifying stage on Saturday, September 27. The extra preliminary round is held on Saturday, August 16, with 762 teams taking part this year.

The FA Trophy has 263 entries and Reds kick off in the third round qualifying stage on Saturday, November, 22. The preliminary round is held on Saturday, October 4.
