CUMBRIA ARL warmed up for the sternest test of their Australian tour against Windsor Wolves tonight with a visit to former Workington Town boss Peter Walsh.
The squad, based in Penrith, as guests of the NRL Panthers, travelled to the Central Coast to catch up with Walsh, one of Town’s most respected coaches of the modern era, who led the club for over three successful years from May 1992.
They have also taken in a couple of NRL games, with the Panthers facing Brisbane Broncos and Manly hosting Newcastle.
“We go into tonight’s game, the first of two in three days, against our toughest opposition Windsor Wolves,” warned tour joint skipper Graeme Lupton, of Millom. “Windsor are the Penrith Panthers’ feeder club and we are up against their A-grade side.
“By all accounts from local people we are up against a very, skilful, well-drilled professional outfit who should provide us with a tough test of our squad.
“However there is a very positive mood in the camp after last week’s performance against Minchinbury.
“Training went well today at CUA Stadium – Panthers’ home ground – and the day before the squad trained on the beautiful Manly beach in front of quite a crowd of interested onlookers.
“Every player who missed out on the first game will be playing tonight and they have been raring to go since we got here.
Cumbria fought back from 24-0 down against Minchinbury to be edged out 24-22.
