Doncaster want revenge for defeat - Bauer

Kiwi centre Andreas Bauer has warned that Doncaster will be out for revenge against Workington Town tomorrow night after the Cumbrians derailed their NL2 title bid.

Ellery Hanley’s men were unbeaten NL2 pacesetters when handed a 32-10 hammering at Derwent Park last month. And Bauer admitted that the Dons had taken Town lightly – even during the match!

“We went there cock-a-hoop, thinking we had only to turn up to win the game,” Bauer said.

“A couple of our players said to theirs during the game, ‘you are winning now, but wait until we come back.’

“It taught us a lesson and showed that Workington are a quality side, especially at home.

“Their forwards had a stranglehold over ours, and their backs showed how classy they were.

“Once the forwards had given them the go-forward, Shaun Lunt was killing us around the rucks. After Workington, we lost to Barrow and Gateshead, so they started our downward spiral.”

Tomorrow’s match is Doncaster’s last before they face Salford in the club’s first ever cup final, the Northern Rail, at Blackpool.

Though Bauer stressed that the seaside is far from the minds of the Dons squad at present.

“Ellery’s big on focusing on the game this week,” said the ex-Hull KR Super League ace. “None of us is thinking about Blackpool.

“We are focusing on Workington and revenge, after they embarrassed us last time.”

Former Harlequins centre Zeb Luisi is likely to be available after missing last week’s 40-18 win over Rochdale with a back problem, which means Hanley will select from a full-strength squad.

“We are pretty fit, so there are no excuses this week,” Bauer said.
