HERBERT Briggs has returned to the hotseat with Workington Reds’ reserves – but he won’t have to do the job alone.
First-team No 2 Viv Busby and young former reserve Adam Johnston, sidelined with a long-term injury, will help out.
“It’s a three-way split,” explained Briggs, who was reserves’ secretary last season, when the team won the Lancashire League title under Stuart Rome, who is to take over at the new Gretna club.
“We’ve had three good years with Stuart, and I wish him all the luck in the world at Gretna. It’s his home town club and it’s a dream come true for him to go there.
“He’s going to be a hard act to follow, and we just have to build on what we’ve got.
“The reserves will be training with the first-team, and Viv will have first-hand knowledge of them.”
Briggs added that he sees his main job as feeding players through to the first-team, and with the reserves playing on Friday nights, he hopes to continue to build their support base.
“There was tremendous support at the end of last season, and we hope that continues,” he said.
It is not yet known if any of Rome’s top reserves from last season will join him at Gretna. The reserves start pre-season training next Thursday.
