WorkingtonTown have snapped up former Barrow and Whitehaven winger Jamie Marshall for the rest of the season.
The 29-year-old, who opted to leave Craven Park two weeks ago due to limited opportunities with the Raiders this term, will go straight in to the starting line-up for Sunday’s NL2 clash with visitors Blackpool.
“Every time I’ve coached against him he has scored tries,” said Town boss Dave Rotheram.
“He has speed and enthusiasm and feels he still has something to offer the professional game. Jamie’s keen enough to travel from Barrow and I’m looking forward to seeing him play.”
The ex-Roose amateur turned pro with Barrow in 1997, and barring a short stint at the Recre, he has committed his career to the Raiders.
He boasts an impressive scoring record for the club, notching 80 tries in 168 appearances and is also comfortable at centre, hooker and half-back.
He crossed 13 times last term in 24 matches under Paul Crarey, 20 of those appearances off the bench.
But under new boss Dave Clark, he has spent much of this season in the reserve-grade trying to break back in to the first-team.
“At the moment I see him primarily as an outside back, though he’s equally at home at nine and can play seven,” Rotheram added.
“We have injuries in our outside backs and are a little light on cover.”
Back-row Dexter Miller will miss out against Blackpool and Martyn Wilson is still struggling with an ankle problem. Jay Duffy will continue at full-back.
