I’m glad he’s not Ron his way to Real

ANYBODY who appreciates talented players regardless of what colour shirt they’re wearing should have whooped at Manchester United’s refusal to sell Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid.
OK, Ronaldo, right, may be reviled by most football fans who aren’t Manchester United supporters, but I reckon the Portuguese sensation’s departure from these shores would have been a sad day for English football.
Manchester United’s determination to keep the player who scored an incredible 42 goals while collecting winner’s medals for the Premier League and Champions League last season should be music to the ears of anyone who values genuine ability.
Ronaldo’s sublime skills are almost enough to turn you into a Manchester United fan . . .well, maybe not quite, but nevertheless the English Premiership would be a poorer place without him.
He is one of the reasons why Euro 2008 is going to be compulsive viewing even without England. The irrepressible Ronaldo, who winked his way into fans’ bad books, is the best player in the Premiership and he could emerge from Euro 2008 as the best player in the world.
He’s one of the reasons why we no longer need to gnash our teeth at our failure to qualify, and instead sit back and enjoy the tournament without the usual nervousness, heartache and inevitable disappointment that comes from watching England at a major tournament.
