Portland complete four-timer

PORTLAND have completed a splendid four-timer in the Workington Sunday League.
They became only the third team to win all four of the trophies available to them - following the success of Distington and Westfield.
The Sunday Grand Slam was completed in runaway fashion as they lifted the President’s Cup with an emphatic 11-0 win over Moorclose.
After the first ten minutes it was virtually a mis-match as Portland dominated and goalkeeper Graham Caton junior didn’t have a shot to save.
Previously Portland had won the Sunday League Cup, the Premier Division title and the big one, the Sunday County Cup.
Throughout the four finals every member of the Portland squad has had at least one start so that they all experienced the final atmosphere.
Against First Division opposition Portland ran riot with Kevin Connolly grabbing four and man of the match Kevin Holliday helping himself to a hat-trick. Both David Dustin and substitute Gary Hodgson each grabbed a brace.
It’s been a remarkable few days for Borough Park with two games (both finals) producing 11 goals in each.
Portland’s victory was very one-sided but earlier in the Tesco Cumberland County League’s Divisional Cup final Cleator Moor Celtic came from 4-1 down to beat Frizington White Star 7-4.
However, Portland’s 11-0 victory is believed to be a record for a senior Cup final at the ground.
