Carleton’s Bamber smashes unbeaten 128

DECENT weather greeted players all week, and as a result some magnificent scoring was in evidence.

The most dominant display was at Edenside in Division B, where visitors Carleton racked up a massive 155 for 1, with Richard Bamber smashing 128 not out of those runs.

In reply, Civic Centre reached 124, and lost only two wickets on the way.

Penrith Schools scored 172 for 3 off their 20 overs, with Ben Littleton (83) and Jack White (71) leading the charge.

In reply, Innovia could only reach 111 for 8.

Also in the top flight, Wigton reached 142 for 4 against Baggrow, who were dismissed for 97 in reply, asJake Taylor snared 3 for 4.

In a closer encounter, pirellli edged out Caldbeck at Pirelli. Caldbeck managed 101 for 4 off their 18 overs, and the home side were indebted to Andy Tricket who made 45 to get the points.

The comeback of the week must surely go to Rockcliffe A.

Having restricted the home side of Arthuret and Esk to 72 for 7, the visitors were in all sorts of trouble as their seventh wicket fell with just 10 runs on the board, with M Loader taking 4 for 9.

But Johnston and Wharton then steadied the ship, and their 65-run partnership saw them claim an unlikely victory.

Also in Division B, Fantails racked up 145 for 4, with Hayes and Senior each falling short of their half centuries.

Only Kay, unbeaten on 43, offered any resistance. Austin Friars easily accounted for the Infirmary team who were dismissed for just 48, as Nick Rigg took 3 for 21.

In the bottom division, Rockcliffe B created some form of record for their inept running. Chasing Caldbeck’s 148 for 3 (courtesy of Graeme Wetheral’s 63, and Amrik Panser’s 44), the home side had six of their eight wickets fall to run-outs, only R Mallinson’s 48 offering any reistance.

Lanercost eased passed neighbours Spadeadam, and Denton Holme easily accounted for Arthuret & Esk B. Moorhouse beat Wigton Juniors by nine wickets, and Naworth Colts were too strong for Irthing Vale.

Is it a miracle or a crime against nature that a man has given birth to a baby?

Miracle - any new life should be welcomed into the world

Crime against nature - the child will always be labelled a freak

It's not really anyone else's business
