Mac cracks 151 for Corby but Penrith hang on for draw

Eden Valley League round-up: Great Corby ace Mark McAlindon hit a brilliant knock of 151, including nine sixes, on his club’s new artificial pitch - but he had to settle for a winning draw against Division Two rivals Penrith Thirds.

McAlindon, who hit a six off the first ball, was partnered by Chris Slack, who smashed an unbeaten 76 as the pair made a first wicket stand of 205 and posted 257 for one.

Joseph McKinley hit some impressive strokes and scored an unbeaten 52 for Penrith in response as they comfortably hung on to end their innings on 143 for four.

In the Premier Division, Carlisle Seconds batsman Chris Haynes hit 102 against Stainton Firsts - but he was incredibly lucky not to end up a loser.

Stainton needed just 15 runs from their last 32 balls with five wickets remaining, but their innings somehow collapsed and they ended up being dismissed just three runs shy of the home side’s 177 for six target.

Elsewhere, Edenside Thirds lost their first two wickets with only ten runs on the board but an unbeaten 98 by Gareth Webber, a six-wicket haul by David Musgrave and a knock of 56 by Gareth Brown saw them record a comfortable away win at Patterdale.

Edenside posted 174 for six, Malcolm Beaty taking five wickets, before Patterdale were dismissed for just 74.

Wigton Seconds all-rounder Richard Mattinson hit 77 and took five wickets - but he still had to settle for a winning draw against Division One rivals Baggrow.

Wigton posted a 163 for nine target before Baggrow hung on for a losing draw scoring 112 for nine.

David Marshall hit 77 for Premier Division new boys Edenhall, but he had to watch on as Braithwaite dismissed his team mates just three runs short of victory, with two balls left. The visitors set a 185 for eight target before bowling Edenhall all-out for 183.

Staffield batsman Steve Thomlinson struck an unbeaten knock of 76 as his side beat Scotby by seven wickets. Scotby posted 165 for nine before Staffield confirmed victory with 13 balls left.

Tony Steele hit 66 and Alex Smith took five wickets on his debut as Arthuret & Esk thrashed Appleby Thirds by four wickets and 88 runs.

Arthuret posted 145 for six before bowling the visitors all out for just 57 in 20 overs.

Elsewhere, Liam Jackson smashed 63 for Cockermouth Thirds as they lost by five wickets to Cockermouth Seconds, Robert Wharton’s knock of 62 helped his side beat Caldbeck Seconds by 35 runs, while Roger Holliday hit an unbeaten 57 as his side recorded a losing draw away at Nunwick Seconds. George Moore struck 52 for Appleby Seconds, but his side still lost by three wickets to Caldbeck Firsts.

In the Premier Division‘s only other game, Penrith Seconds beat Nunwick Firsts by four wickets and 34 runs. They posted 144 for six before bowling Nunwick all-out for 113.
