Kettering asked to re-think promotion

WORKINGTON Reds are still waiting to discover the composition of Blue Square North next season.

The four clubs relegated from the Premier, Altrincham, Farsley Celtic, Stafford and Droylsden, were all expected to be facing Reds in Conference North next year, with Fleetwood and Gateshead, promoted from the UniBond.

Though it has now emerged that North champs Kettering – while entitled to go up – have been asked by Conference chief Brian Lee to consider their position, over ground grading problems at Rockingham Road.

And troubled Premiers Halifax must satisfy the league over their future plans and arrangements made with creditors.

In addition, question marks reportedly remain over Reds’ rivals Boston United, who have reached an agreement with the taxman, and Nuneaton Borough, who are talking to insolvency practitioners.

“I don’t think the league will be as hard next year,” predicted Reds director Alec Graham.

“We have lost Kettering, who are full-time, and Barrow or Stalybridge. None of the clubs coming down are what I would term big clubs.”
